Reality television has taken over in prime time and even on cable channels, reality television is king. Marc Forgione is the son of the Godfather of American Cuisine, Larry Forgione. Forgione was up against another of the favorites on Sunday’s episode. Chef Marco Canora had been considered a potential winner, but he fell short in the finale. Well, one New York chef is giving thanks for becoming "The Next Iron Chef."

In the third season finale of the Food Network reality competition show, Chef Marc Forgione out-cooked his competitor Chef  Marco Canora in the Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge, which was all about honoring the American tradition of Thanksgiving.

There's absolutely no way he's doing a Thanksgiving challenge without turkey.

Joining judges Michael Symon, Donatella Arpaia and Simon Majumdar were iron chefs Bobby Flay and Masaharu Morimoto for a 5-person panel to decide who will be the Next Iron Chef.

Canora cooked consistently and won 5 of the last 9 challenges while Forgione's cooking had more peaks and valleys (albeit with some really high peaks). Canora is more experienced. The chefs have heritage turkey, duck, lobster and racks of venison at their disposal.

If it’s true, Mizzou’s Big 12 North chances just improved. Also, perhaps, Mizzou can be thanked for throwing a little more adversity into the Pelini/Martinez relationship by injuring Martinez’s ankle. Thank you, Kenji. Nebraska blew a chance to clinch the Big 12 North Saturday night at College Station when they fell to Texas A&M 9-6.

Huskers quarterback Taylor Martinez was injured early in the game when his ankle was stepped on by a lineman during a running play. Head Coach Bo Pelini lost his mind during the game, seeing his offense do very little.

In the second quarter he chewed out Taylor Martinez on the sidelines, and throughout the game he was yelling at the refs, even earning an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the 4th quarter. Here’s the video of him chewing out Taylor Martinez in the second quarter:

The good news for Nebraska: Taylor Martinez is back in the game.

Martinez helped the Huskers convert a fourth down with a slippery run, and Roy Helu Jr. broke free for a 31-yard gain moments after that play.

But as the drive neared field goal range, Martinez lofted a pass too deep for a receiver, and Trent Hunter snagged it.

The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass

The news items on this page represent the most relevant “the golden compass” headlines. Alzheimer’s forum to be held in Hopkinton
Gold bulls around the world were given a massive boost during the weekend of 6/7 November by Robert Zoellick, president of the World Bank, when he wrote an opinion piece in the Financial Times suggesting some sort of return to a gold standard.

In fact, Zoellick’s language was very carefully constructed when referring to gold—“The system should also consider employing gold as an international reference point of market expectations about inflation, deflation and future currency values. Although textbooks may view gold as the old money, markets are using gold as an alternative monetary asset today.”—but it didn’t matter; the gold bulls leapt on his words and pushed the price to a new record high of over $1420/ounce.

In early 1980, gold hit an intra-day peak of $850 per ounce. If we assume that global inflation has averaged 3% per year since then, the gold price should currently be trading at around $2 000 per ounce now. Gold bulls are nothing if not persistent however. During most of the 1990s, when the gold price was languishing around $350/oz, the bull’s ardour was not dampened. Bulls always talked fondly of how the looming global financial crisis would come to their aid and that gold would eventually reach many thousands of dollars per ounce. Probably the main reason is that there is a growing lack of faith in fiat currencies generally and the dollar specifically, as it is currently not just the world’s main reserve currency but it is also the world’s monetary standard, having usurped gold’s mantle in 1971, when the convertibility link between the dollar and gold was broken.

On closer inspection, Zoellick’s remarks in fact suggest that a new monetary standard be established, comprising the US dollar, the Euro, the British Pound, Japanese Yen, the Chinese Yuan and gold. At no time did he ever suggest that the world should return to a system of fixed exchange rates based on the gold standard. There’s an awful lot of gold around. Assuming that the average amount of gold mined annually since then is approximately 2 500 tons, the cumulative figure is now approximately 167 000 tons. This is very much in line with the World Gold Council’s estimate of 165 000 tons.

Working on the basis of 2 240 pounds in a ton and 16 ounces in a pound (conveniently ignoring the difference between a Troy ounce and an avoirdupois ounce), that works out at 5.985 billion ounces. At the current gold price of $1 400 per ounce, the total value of gold on the planet is thus around $8.4 trillion. The problem, of course, is that this total figure for gold’s value doesn’t relate purely to gold held in bank vaults around the world;

it is widely dispersed in the form of gold bars, coins, jewellery, printed circuit boards and other forms. The World Gold Council estimates that approximately 52% of total world gold holdings reside in jewellery and only about 18% in central banks’ holdings, which are usually kept in bank vaults. In very round numbers, this equates to about 30 000 tons of gold held by central banks.

Long ago, when gold was the global monetary standard, only central bank gold holdings were of any consequence, as countries’ currencies were physically backed by gold in those days. In other words, there were physical shipments of gold bars between countries to satisfy foreign exchange dealings. For as long as uncertainty stalks global financial markets and certain countries teeter on the brink of default, the debate about gold’s future position as a type of global currency will probably gather momentum.

It only took one episode of "Glee" for Darren Criss to become an instant fan favorite and potential full-time castmember, but he finally got to live his teenage dream Monday night at the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" red-carpet premiere in New York.

Before he ever was involved in "Glee," Criss had achieved viral fame for the YouTube video he put together with his friends, "A Very Potter Musical." The fan musical has garnered more than 3 million views since it was posted in 2009 and is one of the more beloved "Potter" parodies.

"A lot of people who know me as Harry, it's kind of weird, because I'm not Harry Potter," Criss told MTV News.

The premiere was the first time Criss had been in the presence of the actual Harry Potter, Dan Radcliffe. "For the sheer novelty of it, for the fans who are 'Glee' fans and 'Harry Potter' fans," Criss said, agreeing to the idea. There's been some terrible mistake."

Well, it seems that the Glee producers are also big fans of Criss: they’ve just promoted the 23-year-old actor to series regular, reports AfterElton.com. "Darren has become such a sensation in one week, which I love,” Glee creator Ryan Murphy said. "I think there's a hunger for him and a positive relationship role model. Worry, not, Kurt fans – he definitely will be getting a boyfriend this season; it’s just not certain it will be Blaine. Swoon!

"Glee's" Kurt Hummell could be a very busy boy this fall.

Actor Darren Criss, who appeared on the short-lived "Eastwick," is the lastest fresh face to be cast on "Glee," FOX confirms to Zap2it. He'll play a gay student who sings with a rival glee club. The character's description naturally means he could be a contender for Kurt's (Chris Colfer) love interest this season. We wonder if Criss would be representing a private school. We're kind of psyched to see Criss in action. So far, the guest stars this season have been stellar, and we're liking his curly, curly hair.

X-Rays

We now know that these rays are, like light and radio waves, a form of electromagnetic radiation. X-rays have high energy and short wavelength and are able to pass through tissue. A special type of photographic film is used to record X-ray pictures. The machines used to take X-ray pictures produce X-rays with energies of around 120,000 electron volts. Staff involved in X-ray tests and treatment

A radiographer is a trained professional concerned with the operation of X-ray equipment and the care of patients during radiological examinations or X-ray treatment. Radiographers who operate equipment used for taking X-ray pictures are known as diagnostic radiographers: those who operate equipment used for treatment are known as therapy radiographers.

A radiologist is a qualified doctor who is concerned with interpreting X-ray pictures and performing certain types of investigation and treatment that rely on imaging techniques.

X-ray tests

A simple X-ray image can be extremely informative. CT scanning is a further development of the use of X-rays. What happens during an X-ray test?

Is X-ray radiation dangerous?

Nowadays, with the use of very small doses of radiation to produce high quality X-ray images, the risk of cancer after properly supervised X-ray examinations is extremely small; so small as to be of no consequence to any individual.

Because staff in the X-ray department work with X-rays all the time they would, if they stayed beside every patient, over the course of time, be exposed to quite a high dose of radiation. X-rays are a form of invisible, high-frequency electromagnetic radiation. X-rays are very small and energetic. X-rays are used in various medical applications, especially for imaging.

Tesla was the first to inform the scientific community of the biological hazards of x-rays. In some languages, x-rays are actually referred to as Roentgen rays. Because of the tiny wavelength of x-rays, they are useful for imaging small structures, such as individual molecules. Sometimes x-ray imaging is used to investigate paintings which have been painted over. Under special circumstances, such as in a dark room and looking directly down a cathode ray tube, x-rays are visible to the human eye.
